To spot clean a urine stain on a mattress, you will need the following supplies:
- A clean, white cloth or sponge
- Cold water
- Mild detergent, such as dish soap or upholstery cleaner
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
Here are the steps to follow:
-
Begin by blotting the stain with a clean, white cloth or sponge to absorb as much of the urine as possible.
-
Mix a small amount of mild detergent with cold water, and use the solution to gently scrub the stain. Be sure to use a gentle motion and avoid rubbing the stain too hard, as this can damage the fabric of the mattress.
-
Rinse the area with cold water, and blot it dry with a clean cloth.
-
If the stain is still visible, sprinkle baking soda over the area and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. This will help to absorb any remaining odors.
-
After the baking soda has had a chance to work, use a clean, white cloth or sponge to blot away any excess baking soda.
-
To neutralize any remaining odors, mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Mist the solution over the stain, and blot it dry with a clean cloth.
-
Allow the mattress to air dry completely before replacing the sheets and bedding.
It is important to act quickly when dealing with a urine stain, as the longer the urine remains on the mattress, the harder it will be to remove. With a little patience and some basic cleaning supplies, you should be able to successfully spot clean the stain and remove any odors.
